The Ask

Project type

Independent Long-Form Documentary Project

Date

February 2026 – Present

Location

Tampa, Florida

Inspired by the belief that most people never ask, a Canadian Army veteran rebuilding his life after losing much of what once defined it, sets out to connect with the thinkers, mentors, and artists who helped shape his worldview—documenting what happens when you start moving forward, even when you don’t yet know where the road leads.

The Ask is a long-form independent documentary project currently in development. Designed as a multi-year exploration, the film documents the deliberate process of rebuilding — physically, financially, personally, and professionally — through intentional, focused conversations with individuals and institutions whose work has influenced that journey.

At its core, the project examines a single question:

What do you do next when you don’t know what to do next?

Inspired by a principle once shared by Steve Jobs — that most people simply never ask — the film applies that philosophy in real time. Rather than waiting for certainty or guaranteed outcomes, The Ask documents the act of asking itself, and what unfolds as a result.

As a Canadian Army and Afghanistan veteran navigating major life transition, the project explores how high-performance frameworks — identity shaping behavior, proximity to strong influences, and committed action without retreat — translate from theory into lived reconstruction.

The documentary integrates an educational component, including planned Master’s-level study, and unfolds over an anticipated two-to-three-year period. Interviews are pre-recorded and structured around practical application of mindset principles within real-world rebuilding.

Currently in active development and outreach phase.

Regardless of outcome, the project itself serves as both creative exploration and documented proof of concept in forward motion.
